AGHS Legal Aid Cell (Lahore Pakistan)
"AGHS Legal Aid Cell is run by Asma Jahangir, a Pakistani human rights attorney. Every week I shadow a different attorney, so I've done family, criminal and some civil law. I've also been doing research for the annual publications the firm puts out documenting instances of violence against women, children, and minorities. I've visited women's prison, a women's shelter, and the women's burn unit in the local hospital to investigate possible instances of bride burning or dowry burning.
I have also worked to research possible problems with the wording or implementation of a domestic violence bill that has been introduced in the house (http://www.hrw.org/en/news/2010/01/11/pakistan-expedite-domestic-violence-legislation). Several of my suggestions made it into the presentation that an attorney from my firm gave to the Pakistani Senate." - Morgen Morrissette

"During my internship, I drafted a report about the forced labor of "mail-order brides" that summarized the legal issues surrounding online and arranged marriages between Russian and Ukrainian women with Western men. Another project involved migrant workers coming from Central Asia to Russia. I drafted proposals to reform Russian Federation Legal Code to ensure that migrant workers have some rights when they are not paid for work done without a contract. I was also able to work on a similar project which involved the prevention of human trafficking in Chechnya." - Ryan Heggs

Sheppard Mullin Law Firm (Shanghai & Beijing)
"I've been working with the Partners and Associates here on a variety of transactional law matters. My main daily tasks are legal research, document drafting, and occasional legal translation from Chinese to English. I'm trying to keep an ongoing 'portfolio' of my work as far as I am allowed to retain documents/templates, which I can share with anyone interested when I return to Case.
Among the attorneys I work closest with, I most frequently work with Ms. Jenny Liu (Partner), Ms. Yi Zhu (Senior Associate), Ms. Xu Cheng (Associate), and Mr. Eric Wang (Senior Counsel), but I have worked with virtually everyone in the Shanghai office at some point. I will also be spending two weeks in the Beijing office starting next week." - Michael Jacobson
