he clinics operate as a real law office. All clinics are part of the same “firm.” Occasionally outside employment can create a conflict of interest and preclude a student’s participation in the clinic. In the Criminal Justice Clinic, students represent criminal defendants in the Shaker Heights, Euclid and Cleveland Heights Municipal Courts. Employment in these settings or for a judge working in these courts, precludes participation in
any clinic. Other situations which could result in conflicts will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. If a potential conflict of interest exists between a student’s outside employment and his or her involvement in the clinic, we will attempt to work out the issue so that a student can still take the clinic. However, if that is not possible, the student would be required to choose whether to maintain the outside employment or enroll in the clinic.
