ounded in 1636, and home to over 30,000 students, Utrecht University was ranked this year as Continental Europe’s best university. The University’s beautifully renovated classroom facilities and library, which are used by the Summer Institute, are located in historic buildings in the center of the city. The participants in the Summer Institute will be housed at the Apollo Hotel Utrecht City Centre, situated right in the heart of Utrecht, just a few-minutes walk from the train station, the University classroom buildings and library. Students are housed in shared double rooms, which include color TV, bath and shower, and direct dial telephone. The hotel provides a buffet breakfast each morning at no extra charge. Courses are taught in the mornings and early afternoons, four days a week (with the Wednesday of the first week of each session used for a field trip to international institutions at The Hague, the second Friday open for student travel, and the Friday of the last week of each session used for exams). The schedule provides students time for class preparation, as well as socializing and travel to nearby cities such as Amsterdam, Brussels, and Paris. In addition to visits to the international institutions in The Hague, a variety of social events and sightseeing trips are offered as part of the program.
